An £800 two-year strip sponsorship by Dundee family firm Caltech Lifts is being hailed as a gamechanger by Dundee West U15s coach Keith Chalmers.

After Keith asked fellow lift engineer Neil Singer, whose son plays in the team, if Neil’s employer, Caltech Lifts, would provide the £800 sponsorship needed to buy the team a new set of strips, Managing Director Andrew Renwick immediately agreed.

He recently went to the club’s Charlotte Street base to present the strips to Keith and the team in the latest act of community support by the firm. It’s helped many local people and groups over the years, including donating a van to Dundee Foodbank as part of its 40th birthday celebrations two years ago this month.

‘Massive’

Speaking about the difference the financial support will make to the team, Keith said: “This sponsorship is massive to our team as without it we would have to spend more time fundraising than playing football.

“With donations like this we can keep the boys looking great for a season in the top G. Taylor league instead of taking part in the kind of sponsored events we’ve had to do many of over recent years.

“It also allows us to use the funds we raise for team bonding days out and hopefully a football-based trip to England or maybe even Europe next year.

“Having a company support us like this in what I’m trying to achieve also makes my job so much easier – allowing me to concentrate fully on the boys.”

Roots

Andrew Renwick said: “As a Dundee family firm, now run by the second generation, we’ve never lost touch with our roots and always look to do what we can to support groups doing good work in the city to help others. Previously, we’ve also sponsored special event clothing and a fight at kickboxing club Skyaxe, which one of our staff, Anne Reilly, is involved with.

“It’s great to see the hard work Keith and the other club staff and volunteers do to develop and support the players. That’s particularly valuable now because of the effects of Covid-19 in limiting activities like this. We’re delighted to support the club and are looking at sponsoring team hoodies too.”
