It’s 20 years this week since I completed my OUBS MBA.
Here are the Top 10 things I’ve learned since.
- Letters after your name are only as valuable as how much you use the knowledge & skills which resulted in them.
- Every day is a CPD Day, if you pay attention. Don’t rest on your laurels.
- Always think Win-Win.
- Asking questions is more valuable than opining.
- The more integrated Strategy, Marketing, Public Relations, Sales and Operations are, the more they’ll act as catalysts for each other.
- Your in-role capability is all about your Team. Inspire by leading from the front, nurture & support them and they’ll deliver a bountiful set of results because they want to, not because of any target, extrinsic reward or pressure.
- Creativity is massively powerful and underrated. Nurture it in yourself & colleagues.
- To be a successful creative person you need Positivity, Playfulness, Passion, Persistence and Persuasion (Jane Henry, 2001)
- Never assume you’re the smartest person in the room. There are different kinds of ‘smarts’ and you’ll probably need a variety of them to ace each project.
- The OU Family is a wonderful, friendly, helpful network
